Mother Nature threatened to turn the 34th WILO Senior Fair into a very “Wet Wednesday.” However those threats of “Stormy Weather” didn’t materialize and didn’t deter patrons from coming in droves to visit the Fair Wednesday at the Community Life Center behind the First Church of the Nazarene.
Those who came to the Senior Fair were greeted by 48 vendors plus the tremendous support from area businesses who gave lots of prizes for those attending a chance to win.
This year’s theme of “Autumn Picnic” gave those 50 years of age and older the opportunity to look at all sorts of information along with free breakfast and lunch.
“It’s exciting to see so many people out her today,” said Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets. “It’s a great Senior Fair. I’m so appreciative of everyone that’s taken the time to put this together and to plan it. A lot of great things going on and a lot of great vendors. I hope people come out and take advantage of this. There is also a lot of information that they can find out as well and what we have to offer in this community.”
Sheets said this fair offers a great way to gather information.
“I think the biggest thing is all the information they can get from the different vendors,” said Sheets. “I mean we have people here from the banks, credit union, insurance companies, The city is out here passing out a lot of information. The police department, fire department, street department. I just think it’s important that people get out and get their questions answered.”
Another person who had similar thoughts to the Mayor was Voldico Insurance owner and agent Michelle Boyd.
“I think it’s been very well attended today,” said Boyd. “I’m glad to see so many people from the community come out and see what this Senior Fair has to offer. There is such a variety of businesses here today that are driven towards helping people over 65 and make some tough decisions.
“I have seen financial planners here today, there’s senior living facilities, banking, insurance companies,” she continued. “There’s just a lot of opportunities.”
Clinton County Republican Party Chairman Jim Moyer has been a fixture at many Senior Fairs.
“It’s kind of good to be a Republican in Clinton C0unty,” said Moyer. “All of our candidates are unopposed except for District One where Clarence Warthan is being opposed by a Democratic candidate and that’s the only one.”
In addition to all the food and gifts available, flu and pneumonia shots were also available along with insurance and Medicare filing. Visitors could also pay Bingo and register for the grand prize. Entertainment was provided by The Chain Gang Quartet.
