Erica’s Rescues and Humane Society has launched a campaign to raise funds through community donations to help support multiple animals in need of veterinary care in Carroll County following four tragedies that occurred this week.
Founder Erica Draper commented that over the last few days, the rescue and humane society has had an emaciated dog that did not survive due to tumors on the liver and other complications, and a rescue that was in foster care also did not survive alongside a sick kitty who passed earlier in the week.
As well, the organization saw the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department bring a pit bull to the humane society that had been hit by a car.
The combination of the veterinary bills from those animals who needed treatment has placed the organization in $3,600 of debt that Draper stated needs to be paid down immediately.
As of noon today, March 13, Draper released that the community had come together to raise just over $700, and she stated that the organization requires $400 more by 5 p.m. today, March 13.
The organization has launched a GoFundMe campaign, and community members may also donate on PayPal at ericasrescues@gmail.com, Venmo at @Erica-Draper-6 or CashApp at $Ericasrescues. As of 1:30 p.m., the GoFundMe campaign has raised $1,430 toward its $5,000 goal.
Draper released a statement, which may be read below, regarding the needs for the organization.
We have had some pretty horrific cases this week and we went from being paid off at the vet to $3,600 in debt. We desperately need immediate help to save the current dog going into emergency surgery this morning after being hit by a car. We have lost 1 dog to an accident this week already, plus had a cat and dog that had to be humanely euthanized due to being severely emaciated and horribly ill. We do not take asking for donations lightly but without your support there is no way for us to save as many of the lost, abandoned and neglected as we do. Please consider donating.
We currently have several that have needed intensive medical care; the vet bills are piling up, but donations have dried up. We can’t do this alone. We are a registered nonprofit, and we need you.
