Severe Weather Threat Expected Across Central Indiana Through Wednesday Night

Central Indiana residents should stay alert as multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact the region beginning this evening and continuing through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, thunderstorms are possible tonight, with a few storms potentially becoming severe. The primary threats this evening include damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The weather threat is expected to increase significantly on Wednesday and Wednesday night as conditions become favorable for widespread severe thunderstorms. Forecasters say damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and heavy rainfall will all be possible across central Indiana.

In addition to the severe weather threat, strong winds outside of thunderstorms could gust up to 40 mph Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The hazardous weather outlook covers much of central Indiana, including Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Marion, Hancock, Johnson, Monroe, Bartholomew, Lawrence, Jackson, and numerous surrounding counties.

The National Weather Service has indicated that spotter activation is likely Wednesday into Wednesday night. Trained storm spotters are encouraged to report any severe weather observed both this evening and during Wednesday’s anticipated severe weather event.

After Wednesday’s storms, additional thunderstorm chances may develop across far southern Indiana on Thursday. Another round of thunderstorms is possible across much of the state from Sunday into Monday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts, review severe weather safety plans, and have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings as the threat unfolds over the next several days.
