Larry Motes, 76, of rural Frankfort, passed away September 9, 2026 peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was born October 11, 1949 in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee to Charles and Virgie (Case) Motes. He married Linda Glaser on January 22, 1971 and she survives.
Larry was a high school graduate in Almagordo, New Mexico. Upon graduating, Larry entered the US Navy where he proudly served his county. He was formally commended of the US 7th fleet for outstanding performance of duty, exceptional skill, and for his work helping maintain the ship’s fuel transfer system for combat readiness on the USS Constellation CVA 64 as a Boiler Technician 3rd class. When Larry returned to civilian life, he worked for fifteen years at Alcoa and then also at Frito Lay, retiring formally in 2012. He was a lifelong Clinton County resident as an adult, and attended the Michigantown Christian Church. Larry enjoyed many hobbies in his spare time, including making his own black powder guns, deer hunting, and photographing wildlife. He loved visiting the casinos, watching old western movies, and spending time with his grandchildren. Larry also had an excavating business and installed storm shelters.
Surviving are: his wife, Linda; his daughters, Della Motes of Lebanon, Josie (Richard) Pope of Delphi, and Billie (Chris) Hillman of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Renee, Christopher, Carleigh, Hannah, Madi, Austin, and Sami Jo; great-grandchildren, Delilah, Ellie, and Amira; and his sisters, Faye Page and Melinda Johnson.
He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Virgie Motes; his parents, Charles and Virgie; three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may visit from 1-3 pm on Friday, September 11 at Archer-Weston Funeral & Cremation Center, 501 E Clinton St., Frankfort, IN. A funeral service will begin at 3 pm following the visitation. Burial will be at Whiteman Cemetery in Michigantown following the service. Archer-Weston Funeral and Cremation Center are honored to assist the Motes family.
