Academic excellence was on full display Thursday evening, February 26, 2026, as Rossville Middle/Senior High School recognized 215 students during its annual Academic Honors Program.

Students earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher were eligible for Academic Honors distinction during the 2025–2026 school year. Of the school’s 522 middle and high school students, 215 met that benchmark, including 76 middle school students and 139 high school students, an impressive reflection of the school’s strong academic culture.
The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks from Principal Mike Hammons, who introduced National Honor Society President Gregory Sorenson for the evening prayer. Awards were then presented as class sponsors read the names of qualifying students for each respective grade level.
In keeping with the program’s format, each class gathered on the east side of the auditorium before being called forward. Applause was respectfully held until all names for each grade were read, ensuring every honoree received equal recognition.
Class sponsors participating in the ceremony included Royce Huffer for Grades 6 & 7, Vince McClure for Grade 8, Joel Wilson for Grade 9, Russ Olnick for Grade 10, Paul Haynes for Grade 11, and Cory Dunn for Grade 12.
The official program acknowledged the generous sponsorship of Farmers Bank and the Rossville Lions Club, along with appreciation for the Rossville Board of Education, administrators, teachers, and staff, whose support and instruction make student achievement possible.
Students and their families received formal invitations ahead of the event to celebrate their academic accomplishments. Harmon Photography was present to capture both individual and group photographs, with ordering information to be shared following the program
Prominently featured in the program was a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education.”
The message echoed throughout the evening, honoring not only strong grades but also the discipline, responsibility, and character behind those achievements.
With more than 41 percent of the student body earning a 3.5 GPA or higher, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder that Rossville Middle/Senior High School continues to cultivate a culture of high expectations and academic success.
