Rossville Elementary Kindergarten students participated in National Fire Prevention Week activities last week to teach children the importance of fire safety. The Rossville Volunteer Fire Department visited the school to demonstrate their tools and gear and educate students on how to stay safe in emergencies.

Firefighters Kevin Woollen and Caleb Hufford led the hands-on session, showing students how to use a fire hose and experience the workings of a fire truck. Hufford, dressed in full firefighting gear, helped students understand what to expect when encountering a firefighter in an emergency. Students Cooper Hoagland and Gatlin Hufford even had the chance to operate the fire hose, adding to the day’s excitement.

The class also traveled to Sunnyside Intermediate School to watch the Lafayette Fire Prevention Show, where they learned additional fire safety tips through interactive demonstrations.

“This was a great opportunity for our students to see the hard work of our firefighters and learn valuable fire safety skills,” said Kindergarten Teacher Emily Heater. “We appreciate the Rossville and Lafayette fire departments for making this experience fun and educational.”

National Fire Prevention Week is observed every October to promote fire safety awareness and preparedness nationwide.
