The Community Schools of Frankfort has announced that five Frankfort Middle School students competed in the Hoosier State Science and Engineering Fair with two students receiving recognitions.
The students competed in the Hoosier State Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis against 100 of the best projects from across the state, and two of the students received accolades for their performance at the fair.
Eighth grader Kloe Castaneda placed third overall in the competition and won sponsor awards for the most outsranding psychological sciences project from the American Psychological Association alongnside the most outstanding demonstration of STEM excellence by a minority student from the National Association of Black Chemists. Castaneda’s project delved into the science behind language for bilingual speakers with “Hear Me Out! An Investigation of Inattentional Listening Between Receptive Bilinguals and Fluent Bilinguals.”
Fellow eighth grader Jayden Sallee received a sponsor award for excellence in engineering from the Yale Science and Engineering Association for his project delving into the logistics behind wind turbines with his project “Will It Wind? Examining the Effect of Blade Shape on Wind Turbine Energy Production.”
Middle school students Marlana Giesler, Sadie Sheets and Salvador Mejia-Santos also competed in the prestigious competition at the state level.
