Frankfort Community Public Library To Host ‘ProQuest: Historic Hoosier Press’ Class

The Frankfort Community Public Library announced an upcoming free class dedicated to aiding community members with further research opportunities through the historic newspaper archives at the library.

The library will host its “ProQuest: Historic Hoosier Press” class on Saturday, July 20 at 10 a.m. in the lower-level meeting room to grant community members an opportunity to explore how newspapers provide a unique view into the past as they aid researchers with understanding the people, events and attitudes of an earlier time.

The library maintains a subscription to the Indiana Collection of ProQuest’s Historical Newspapers database, which offers patrons access to publications from Evansville, Lafayette, Indianapolis, Richmond and Muncie throughout history. Library Genealogy Manager Jill Garrison dedicates herself to improving the accessibility to research materials for patrons, including hosting events such as the Historic Hoosier Press class.

Through the class, Garrison will showcase the database and the historical materials to guide the community through utilizing the collection to aid in genealogical and historical research. Garrison will also instruct attendees how to access the database remotely utilizing a library card.

The program remains a free program, but registration is required to attend. For registration, contact the library at 765-654-8746, visit myfcpl.org or visit the library at 208 W. Clinton St. in Frankfort.
