A Clinton County Special Olympics coach and Frankfort resident was honored at the Indiana State Police Annual Award Ceremony this year for his work with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and beyond.

Trooper Nathaniel King, who also serves as a coach for the Clinton County Special Olympics, was awarded with a Life Saving Award for actions he took outside of his duties. While off duty in 2023, King was having dinner with his wife at a restaurant when he discovered someone nearby choking, and without hesitation, he swiftly administered the Heimlich Maneuver and successfully dislodged the obstructing object, restoring the person’s breathing to normal. King remained with the subject until emergency medical personnel arrived and continued care and support in the meantime.

“King’s commendable act exemplifies the unwavering dedication of Indiana State Police troopers, even when off duty, to render assistance whenever and wherever it is needed,” the ISP released.

King may be known for his work with the Indiana State Police in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, but many local Clinton County natives know King as a coach for the Clinton County Special Olympics and active member in the disabilities community in Frankfort, and he and his wife, Michelle, have made strides alongside their daughter, Audra, as she remains active in the activities and recently won the title of Cowgirl, a themed-title synonymous with Prom Queen, at this year’s Special Needs Prom. King was recognized and congratulated by the members of Clinton County Special Olympics as well for his undying support for the community, his family and everyone with special needs within the county.

“Congratulations Coach Nate,” the organization released. “Well deserved.”

During the Indiana State Police Annual Award Ceremony, King was honored alongside Trooper Francisco Miramontes, who was awarded the 2023 Indiana State Police Lafayette Post Trooper of the District, Trooper Mitchell McKinney, who was honored with the Indiana State Police Lafayette District DUI Award, and Trooper David Millburg, who was awarded the Life Saving Award alongside Sgt. Kemp and Deputy Bowling of the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department.
