The Hoosierland TV Game of the Week travels to Flora for a Hoosier Heartland Conference showdown as Eastern takes on Carroll.
The Comets enter ranked No. 6 in 2A and undefeated at 4-0. Carroll is 3-1 and ranked No. 8 in 1A, playing at home for just the second time this year.
Last year, this matchup came down to a two-point conversion attempt and saw Eastern win 28-27, leading to an eventual conference championship for the Comets.
In the last nine games, Eastern holds a narrow 5-4 advantage.
The Cougars enter fresh off a win against rival Delphi, holding the Oracles scoreless. Sophomore quarterback Reid Hayden had his best passing game of the year, going 9-of-13 for 112 yards and a touchdown.
It was the most passing yards in a game for Carroll this season. The Cougar rushing attack has been the headline, with running back Jon Carey averaging 125 rushing yards a game.
Eastern shut out Taylor in week four. Quarterback Gibson Eagle was 8-of-12 for 172 yards and five passing touchdowns.
The Comets’ high-powered offense centers around Eagle, who’s thrown for 1065 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 271 yards and six touchdowns through four games.
Head coach Josh Edwards, in his 20th year coaching the Comets, is the longest-tenured coach in the Hoosier Heartland. He holds a 110-95 record and won his first Sectional championship in 2025.
Blake Betzner is in his sixth year leading the Cougars, making him the second longest-tenured coach in the HHC. He is 52-13 in his time at Carroll and has won three Sectional titles.
The game marks a pivotal matchup in the Hoosier Heartland, with Carroll, Eastern, Sheridan and Clinton Prairie all undefeated in conference play heading into week five. The Gophers host the Blackhawks this week.
