Phyllis May (Gascho) Meador was born May 1, 1935, in Clinton County, Indiana to John Henry and Amy (Eller) Gascho. Surrounded by her family, she peacefully passed from this life on November 1, 2026, at Milner Community Health Care in Rossville, Indiana, at the age of 91 years.
Mother lived in the Rossville area her entire life. As a child, she attended Moran and Rossville schools. On August 24, 1952, she was married to Harold Meador. They gave their lives to Jesus Christ and were baptized on May 19, 1955, serving the Lord faithfully the rest of their lives. At the time of her passing, Mother was a member of the Cutler Ridge district of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, New Conference.
Mother and Dad cherished their life together for over 50 years until Dad’s death in 2005. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter, Leonard, Larry, and Kathleen. Dad and Mother worked together on the family grain and livestock farm with their children. Though the labor was often hard, Mother faced the difficulties of life with good humor and her characteristic twinkling smile. She was a kind and gentle mother and a warm and doting grandma, always ready with a listening ear or a word of encouraging support.
Mother’s creativity found its expression in nearly every area of her life. She was a gifted artist, both drawing and oil painting. She loved music and singing and was an accomplished musician. She worked willingly with her hands sewing, tailoring, decorating cakes and preparing wonderful meals which were enjoyed by her family and many friends she warmly welcomed into their home. Her exceptional work ethic followed her into each new interest as she learned and served those she loved with dedication.
Mother is survived by one son, Larry (Kim) Meador, Rossville, Indiana, her daughter Kathleen (Lynn) Yost, Eaton, Ohio, and daughter-in-law Karen Meador, Ellensburg, Washington. Also surviving are beloved grandchildren Leland (Tabetha) Meador, Layton (Tamara) Yost, Eric (Denise) Meador, Lynton (Robin) Yost, Ivan Meador, Michelle (Thomas) Bauman, Deidra (Denton) Hahn, Shelly (Russ) Blocher, and Angela (Quinton) Hufford as well as twenty-five great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, son Leonard, grandson Lance Meador, her parents, her siblings Kenneth Gascho, Nina Wagoner, and Edwin Gascho, their spouses and all of her siblings in law.
In recent years as her body and mind failed, her kind and gentle spirit never did. She moved to Milner Community Healthcare in the summer of 2022. We are so thankful for the kind and loving hearts who tenderly cared for her.
The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful Mother, and we are grateful for her legacy of endurance and meeting life’s challenges with steady faith and compassion for all. We trust Mother to the tender care of the loving Father and look forward with hope to that Morning of Joy.
