Great weather for Camp Cullom and downtown Frankfort as two major activity hubs get attention this weekend.
Camp Cullom and United Way for Clinton County will host the first ever “Ice Cream on the Prairie” tomorrow, Saturday, August 9th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The 90 Acre Camp will be open to the public, as usual, while the Camp Cullom Board of Directors and friends of Camp Cullom brush up on their Ice Cream dipping skills Saturday.

Meanwhile, the first ever “Fun Food Festival” will also make its debut in Downtown Frankfort Saturday starting at 4pm. Have an Ice Cream treat first at Camp Cullom then check out the Fun Food Festival in Downtown Frankfort for a summer meal and finish with a Concert at Prairie Creek Park.
Six flavors of Ice Cream will be available to choose from at Camp Cullom’s “Ice Cream on the Prairie” event. The Ice Cream and brownies will be served in the Lodge. There is no specific charge, just a free will offering for this family-friendly event. The six flavors are:
- Mint Chocolate Chip
- Chocolate
- Butter Pecan
- Strawberry
- Vanilla
- Almond Joy (Glover’s Introduces this Brand New Flavor)

Camp Cullom is a Clinton County United Way Pacesetter this year. Half of all net proceeds go to Camp Cullom and the other half benefits the United Way 2025 campaign to help the drive get off to a good start.
“Ice Cream on the Prairie” was the brainchild of Camp Cullom board member Tom Dickerson. “Glover’s recently re-opened and I thought it would be cool to welcome them back. Glover’s will be introducing their brand-new flavor, Almond Joy, Saturday. Weather looks good. What better way to enjoy the day by getting outside and have a bowl of Ice Cream,” Dickerson said. The forecast for Saturday is “Sunny with a high near 86.”
If you have never been to Camp Cullom or have not visited lately, the Camp is known for:
• Diverse Outdoor Activities: Camp Cullom boasts over 5 miles of hiking trails through forest, wetland, and prairie grass areas—many are easy to moderate and include some that are handicap accessible.
• Top-Notch Disc Golf: It features a 24-hole disc golf course that is often considered one of the best in Indiana, offering a challenge for both beginners and seasoned players.
• Prairie Grass Observatory: The camp is home to the Prairie Grass Observatory, one of Indiana’s best places for stargazing thanks to its dark rural skies. Public astronomy nights and star parties offer families a chance to tour the heavens and enjoy educational presentations.
• Nature and Environmental Education: The grounds include a Nature Center, a “Maple Syrup Sugar Shack” (where visitors can learn about making maple syrup), a wetland area, and a variety of wildlife habitats.
• Playgrounds and Facilities: There’s a well-equipped playground, picnic areas, indoor lodge facilities, and plenty of places to camp or rent space for family events and reunions.
• Community Focus: Open to the public and operated by the Clinton County Foundation for Youth, Camp Cullom aims to foster health, well-being, and nature education for all ages. Many activities and spaces are offered free or at very low cost, especially for Clinton County residents.
