The Clinton County Community rallied around the local Scouting program and achieved the $10,000 goal to help keep Scouting strong in Clinton County. At last count, $9,875 came in during the event with two or three other known donations yet to come. An anonymous donor said he would make up any difference if the goal is not met.
The achievements of area youth in Scouting were celebrated, spotlighting two youth who achieved the rank of Eagle. Mayor Judy Sheets MC’ed the event and paid tribute to Scouter Ron Pritchett who passed unexpectedly on December 9th. Pritchett introduced the Mayor to scouting by asking her to serve on the Eagle Board of Review, a small group that approves projects and eligibility of each Eagle Scout and makes final approval of the Eagle Rank, the highest rank in Scouting.
Russ and Susan Kaspar reflected on a few highlights from their youth associated with scouting and Russ Kaspar’s 14 year tenure as Scoutmaster of Troop 320 and his service as Sugar Creek District Chairman. Kaspar spotlighted two local Eagle Scouts and interviewed Pat Day, a local businessman who served in Russ’s Troop 320 years ago. Pat was Senior Patrol Leader (highest troop position for a Scout) and an Eagle Scout himself. Day now owns several funeral homes in North Central Indiana.
Erick Dircks, a former Scout himself, put together a video of the evening:
