The Humane Society for Boone County has announced its new Executive Director as the organization continues to strive for excellence in its mission to care for the animals of Boone County.
The Board of Directors announced the organization’s new Executive Director as Melanie Evans, who joined the team in May and has been working over the past month with outgoing Executive Director Susan Austin and the board to ensure there is a smooth transition in leadership for the Humane Society.
Following Austin’s announcement of her retirement, Evans rose to the top of the choices for the next Executive Director for the organization through her extensive background in animal welfare, behavior modification, training and environmental enrichment for the animals, which paired with experience in program development, project management and public education and communication to bring her to the forefront.
Evans expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to continue the work already being conducted across Boone County as the new Executive Director of the organization, such as continuing the “trap-neuter-return” initiative to help limit the amount of stray and abandoned animals in the county amongst numerous other initiatives to ensure the well-being of residents, adoptees and strays.
“I’m honored to be leading this wonderful organization alongside the skilled and successful board and the many passionate volunteers that make it all happen,” Evans said. “Cheers to a bright future for many more deserving cats and dogs.”
Austin commented about the decision to appoint Evans as the new leader of the organization, stating that she believes that Evans will work alongside the board, staff and community to continue the success of the organization.
“HSforBC is a wonderful organization, made strong by our community support, donors, volunteers, staff and board,” Austin said. “I retire knowing it’s in great hands moving forward and will continue to help save lives of cats, dogs, puppies and kittens in Boone County. The best is yet to come.”
The Humane Society of Boone County will accompany numerous puppies during the Zionsville Farmers’ Market who will be available for meet-and-greets during the market on Saturday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The puppies are from five different litters and are looking for their forever families.
