Virginia C. Hussong

Mrs. Virginia Carol “Ginny” Hussong, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at CrownPointe Assisted Living in Lebanon, Indiana. She was born in Lebanon, on July 24, 1934, a daughter of the late Ross Russel and Emma Martha (Smith) Phillips.

On July 1, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Leon Hussong at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Boone County. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2016, sharing 59 loving years together.

Ginny graduated from Lebanon High School in 1952. She worked from 1952 to 1962 as a secretary to the superintendent of Lebanon Community School Corporation and had also been the financial secretary at the First Presbyterian Church in Lebanon. She then was employed at the Boone County State Bank for 24 years and retired from Ameritrust (now, KeyBank) in 1989 as Public Relations Officer. After retirement she was an instructional aide part-time at the Lebanon Middle School until 1997. Ginny also operated a Cameo Typing Service for 18 years.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a teacher, camp counselor and VCS leader. Ginny also served as president and treasurer of Presbyterian Women. She was a long-time honorary active member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, having served as national treasurer, and Indiana registered agent, in addition to many local offices. She was a former member of Zonta International Women’s Organization, Boone County Council on Aging, Lebanon Revitalization Committee, and treasurer of the Lebanon Welfare League. Ginny served as 1988 county chairman for United Way of Central Indiana and had been awarded a Key to City of Lebanon. She was Boone County Businesswoman of the Year in 1989.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Ginny enjoyed writing and was a published poet, publishing five poems in Ideals Magazine.

Survivors include her son, Brent L. (Suzan) Hussong of Nashville, Indiana; grandson, Nicholas S. “Nick” Hussong; close family friend, Ron (Kim) Batts, brothers-in-law, Harold (Janet) Hussong and William (Sharon) Hussong; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ginny was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Ross Phillips and sister, Margaret “Peggy” Irene (Gary) Barnett.

Funeral Services are planned for 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
