Indiana University Health recently recognized the actions of two staff members at the Frankfort hospital who aided with financial insecurities that a patient was experiencing.
IU Health Frankfort Primary Care Physician Assistant Emily Walsh and Medical Assistant Darla Smith were recently honored for helping the patient in need, and Walsh elaborated on the situation that prompted their action.
“We had a patient who … needed to go to the hospital to get some testing done,” Walsh said. “She didn’t know if she would be able to go that day because she didn’t have the money for gas to get there.”
Smith reportedly spoke further with the patient, which led her to discover that the patient was also food insecure.
“I took her to the gas station, and then I took her to the grocery store,” Smith said.
Both Walsh and Smith were recognized for their actions as it contributes to the culture established at IU Health Primary Care in Frankfort.
“In this office, we are super blessed to have every provide here who goes above and beyond to help people outside of their medical needs,” Walsh said.
