A train derailment early Thursday morning led to intersections being unavailable for through traffic in the morning hours.
In the early morning today, Nov. 21, just after 12 a.m., a Norfolk and Southern train derailed on the west side of the City of Frankfort. Reports state that preliminary information showed that at least 11 cars were involved, and all train cars that were involved were confirmed to not be transporting hazardous materials.
The Frankfort Fire Department “A” Shift crew responded to the reports of the derailed cars to confirm the situation and assess the presence of hazardous materials, which were determined not to be a factor, which was further confirmed by Norfolk and Southern.
Norfolk and Southern initiated an immediate response to manage the train derailment, and the derailment is expected to impact several main intersections on the west side of Frankfort through the morning hours.
As of 8:30 a.m., all intersections were reportedly clear of the derailment except the intersection at Rossville Avenue.
