The Indiana Arts Commission announced today, June 27 that 36 libraries across the state have received training and grant funding through Lifelong Arts Indiana, including the Frankfort Community Public Library, Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library and Thorntown Public Library.
The Lifelong Arts Indiana program is intended to promote the arts and creativity services geared toward adults ages 65 and older. Every selected library is set to receive up to $5,000 to host programming for older adults within their community, which is supported by the Indiana Arts Commission in partnership with the Family and Social Services Administration.
The Frankfort Community Public Library will utilize the funding for their “Discover the Art of Handmade Papermaking” program where patrons will be introduced to the craft of papermaking through a class led by artist Terry Lacy. During the class, the participants will delve into the world of papermaking by creating their own paper and learning more about how to utilize colored paper pulp to make a work of art.
In Boone County, the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will host a “Rhythm of Life – Creative Aging Drumming Program” while the Thorntown Public Library will host “Connecting with Art at The Sugar Creek Art Center.”
