The City of Frankfort is proud to announce it has been awarded $449,702.50 from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) through the Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) program for the 2026 funding cycle. The City will meet the 50/50 matching requirement by dedicating an equal amount of local funds, bringing the total investment for road and street improvements to $899,405.00.
This significant funding is earmarked for numerous infrastructure projects throughout Frankfort, directly improving road safety, quality, and accessibility. “Securing this CCMG funding is essential for our city’s infrastructure strategy,” stated Street Superintendent Brian Killman. “The grant allows us to tackle more projects than our local budget would permit alone, ensuring we can sustain and improve the quality of our streets efficiently. We are moving quickly to start the process and deliver these improvements for our residents.”
The City of Frankfort is currently finalizing the scope of work for the approved projects and preparing for the procurement process. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for the 2026 CCMG projects will be officially released to prospective contractors soon. Mayor Judy Sheets emphasized the long-term impact of this continued investment. “Road improvements are an investment in our future. Better roads not only enhance our residents’ daily lives but also strengthen Frankfort’s appeal to new businesses and families. This program is a great example of a successful state and local partnership working to build a better quality of
life in Indiana.”
The CCMG program remains a lifeline for smaller and rural communities like Frankfort, where dedicated local funding for major road rehabilitation is often limited. While the program has seen recent changes, including reducing the annual cap per local unit of government to $1 million for Fiscal Year 2026, the grant’s fundamental structure continues to ensure that a significant portion of state road funds is directed to local needs. For Frankfort, maintaining a 50/50 match ensures
we remain eligible for substantial grants, which is crucial to maximizing our infrastructure dollars.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed as the project timeline progresses. Stay tuned for updates on the list of roads to be paved and the official construction start dates.
