Summary Judgment Granted in Kelly Case-Ordered to Pay $329,360.47

Summary judgement was granted in the Richard Kelly/Ashley Kelly case by special Judge Thomas Lett.  In the summary judgment below, the Kellys are ordered to pay $329,360.47.

The court documents are dated September 17, 2025.

In response to the verdict, Clinton County Commissioner President Jordan Brewer said “This is a day of sadness and vindication.  Unfortunately the commissioners and council were put in a position of finger pointing and criticism that ‘nothing was done wrong’.  This is a vindication that there was no witch hunt. Those who are elected are trusted to follow the law. This verdict shows that some things were not done correctly.  No one is winning and it is unfortunate for the county.”

Brewer said an official statement from the Clinton County commissioners and Clinton County Council, will be issued later today.

Clinton County Daily News reached out to Sheriff Kelly for a statement, which may be forthcoming at a later time.

Richard and Ashley Kelly exit the Clinton County courtroom following their submission of a “not guilty” plea in March 2022.
