SR 39 2-Vehicle Accident Causes Fatality In Boone County

A crash on State Road 39 on Thursday afternoon resulted in a fatality and the launch of an investigation by the Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.

On Aug. 8, just before 2:30 p.m., the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Police Department were reportedly dispatched to a two-vehicle traffic accident that involved a dump truck a pickup truck near the intersection of County Road 500 South and State Road 39.

Before the accident, Boone County 911 received a call about the pickup truck driving recklessly as the truck was traveling north on State Road 39 entering Boone County from the Hendricks County line. Reports stated that the pickup truck left the travel lane and collided with a dump truck head-on.

Upon arrival, first responders reportedly located a silver and red 1994 GMC 1500, which was occupied by Nicole Spann, 43, of Thorntown, and a red and white dump truck occupied by Brandon Buchanan, 36, of Gosport. Reports showed that the vehicles sustained significant damage during the collision.

First responders released that Spann was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Buchanan was reportedly transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was requested to investigate the accident, and the cause of Spann’s vehicle leaving her lane of travel is unknown as of Friday, Aug. 9 at 9 a.m., authorities state.

The incident will remain under investigation, and updated will be provided to the community as they become available.
