Single-Vehicle Crash Leads To OWI Arrest, Discovery Of Two Active Warrants

Reports of a single-vehicle crash led to the arrest of a man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leading to the discovery of a warrant for deportation from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a warrant through Clinton County.

On Dec. 4 around 1:30 p.m., fire, medics and law enforcement were reportedly dispatched to Burrows in the area of Old State Road 25 at the south dead end for a report of a single-vehicle personal injury crash.

The report received by dispatch stated that the driver was bleeding, and the complainant reported that they believed the man was intoxicated.

Upon emergency services arrival, the driver had reportedly left the scene on foot. With assistance from citizens of Burrows, Carroll County Sheriff deputies were able to locate the driver hiding in brush along the railroad tracks, and he was reportedly taken into custody and evaluated by medics. The driver was transported via ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Once the driver was medically cleared and released from the hospital, he was transported to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and reportedly charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while never receiving a license and leaving the scene of a crash.

After being booked into the jail, the department reported that deputies discovered the driver had given a false name and information, which led to a further investigation that positively identified the driver as having an active warrant for deportation from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as an active warrant through Clinton County.

No further information, including the name of the driver, has been released at this time.
