Shannon Marie Akers, 52, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, at Clinton House Rehabilitation and Health Center. She was born on July 8, 1972, in Frankfort to Michael Murphy and Wilma (Godbey) Cottrell. She married Derek Akers June 7, 2008. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2014.
Shannon was Frankfort Senior High School graduate with the class of 1991. She worked for Abilities Services, Inc. for 22 years. She was an animal lover, especially cats. She loved taking care of the neighborhood stray cats. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching cooking shows, and cooking and baking. She had a caring heart and would often be found buying little treasures for others especially her family. She was always willing to help people and would go out of her way to take care of others. If you didn’t have a place for the holidays, she would invite you to join her family to celebrate. Anything she could do to bring joy and sunshine; she would share it with others.
Shannon is survived by grandmother, Vivian Godbey; “sister-cousin,” Selena (Eric) Best; stepsister, Monica (Scott) Murphy-Blackburn; stepbrother, Ryan Cox; half-brother, Lance Murphy; nephew, Dakota Royer; brother-in-law, Gordon Royer; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jennifer Murphy-Royer; grandfather, Ezra Godbey; and grandparents; Murl and Effie Murphy.
Visitation will be held, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Pastor Gordon Smith will officiate.
