First Bank Midwest is warning customers to remain vigilant as scammers continue targeting bank customers through fraudulent phone calls.
According to the bank, scammers are posing as representatives from the bank’s Fraud Department and are now also impersonating members of its Treasury Management team. The callers are using what appears to be a legitimate First Bank Midwest phone number, making the scam more convincing.
The scam typically begins with a caller asking customers about suspicious account activity, most often involving ACH transactions. Once the customer engages in the conversation, the scammer attempts to obtain personal information, online banking login credentials, or secure access codes. That information is then used to gain unauthorized access to customer accounts and initiate fraudulent transactions.
Bank officials emphasized that First Bank Midwest will never ask customers for personal information, passwords, login credentials, or secure access codes over the phone.
Customers who receive a suspicious call claiming to be from First Bank Midwest should hang up immediately and call the bank directly at 765-654-8731 to verify the call or speak with a member of the Treasury Management team.
Anyone who believes they may have shared sensitive information or notices unauthorized or fraudulent activity on their account should contact the Treasury Management Department immediately at 765-654-8731, extension 5622.
Customers can also review recent online banking activity by:
- Logging into online banking.
- Selecting the Transfers & Payments tab.
- Clicking the Online Activity tile to review ACH transactions, wire transfers, contact information changes, fund transfers, and other online banking activity.
First Bank Midwest encourages customers to remain alert and never provide sensitive account information to unsolicited callers, even if the phone number appears to be from the bank.
