The Rossville Hornets defeated the Clinton Prairie Gophers to win Sectional 54 of the IHSAA 2024 Volleyball State Tournament on Saturday.
The Hornets began the day with a 3-0 win over Frontier in the semifinal match. They won 25-11, 25-23, 25-20.
In the other semifinal, Clinton Prairie took on Bethesda Christian. The Gophers picked up the sweep winning 25-21, 25-21, 25-14.
In the title match, the Gophers struck first, taking set one 25-23. Rossville bounced back with a 25-19 win in set two. The pivotal third set was tight the entire way. Both teams commanded a lead at points during the set, but Rossville found a way to string together two points at the end and took set three 27-25. The Hornets took the momentum from their third set victory to being home set four 25-13 and take the match 3-1.
The Hornets advance to the Regional Championship to take on Seton Catholic, who has a record of 25-8 and is ranked in the top 5 according to Indiana Prep Volleyball. The match will be played at Elwood High School on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
The Gophers end their season with a 14-19 record. Senior Abbey Swan finished her career with over 1000 assists, 1000 digs, and 1000 kills.
