Rossville Schools Announces $3,000 Grant For Assistive Technology Lending Library

The Rossville Consolidated School District announced its receipt of a $3,000 grant from Families Serving Greater Lafayette, which is intended to aid in the launch of the district’s Assistive Technology Lending Library.

Families Serving Greater Lafayette is a local non-profit organization known for its continued contributions to education and community enrichment, and the organization raises funds primarily through its food booth at the Feast of the Hunters’ Moon in West Lafayette to continue its tradition of supporting high school seniors with scholarships while also providing small educational and social grants, such as the grant awarded to the Rossville district.

With the grant, the district intends to launch its Assistive Technology Lending Library, which stands as an initiative to support meaningful interactions and communication for all students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in both special education and general education. The library is expected to provide communication devices and resources for students who require assistive technologies to ensure their learning experiences are enhanced.

The district stated that with the Indiana PATINS project ending in June 2024, the need for assistive technology resources has grown in the district and surrounding regions. Superintendent Dr. Jim Hanna commented about how the new technology is expected to impact the students at Rossville.

“Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to the tools they need to communicate effectively and succeed in the classroom,” Hanna said. “This grant will make a significant difference in helping us fulfill that mission.”

The grant will initially focus on the purchase and install of a permanent Augmented and Alternative Communication picture community board to improve engagement and communication during play. The remaining funds are expected to be utilized to support resources for Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and classroom use by professionals and teachers.

“RCSD extends its heartfelt gratitude to Families Serving Greater Lafayette for their generous support and commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments,” Hanna released. “This partnership will have a lasting impact on the students and educators who will benefit from the new Assistive Technology Lending Library.”
