Rossville Elementary School Encourages Aluminum Can Donations For Recycling Competition

Rossville Elementary School has announced its participation in a can recycling competition spanning now until the end of April with a chance for the school to earn funds through the power of recycling.

The school will be pitted against a few neighboring school systems, including Delphi Elementary who has announced that their recycling bin has almost reach capacity already, for the chance to win a monetary reward of $500, $1,000 or $1,500 to be used however each school pleases through the Ball Corporation.

Community members may collect aluminum cans, place them in a garbage bag and deliver them to Rossville Elementary School, Delphi Elementary School or their closest participating school to help that school tally up points toward the higher prizes.

The contest is administered by Recycling is Like Magic with the support of Ball Corporation and will continue through April 30 this year. The contest is intended to act as a fun recycling competition between local schools to help educate kids on the importance of recycling while earning extra funds for the school.

Along with raising funds for the school, the students are introduced to the children’s book “The Girl Who Recycled 1 Million Cans,” which is intended to help children learn about recycling, math, community, financial literacy, perseverance, sharing, teamwork and donating.

Last year, Recycling is Like Magic administered a can recycling contest across eight schools, which saw 1.3 million cans being recycled to raise over $21,000 for the participating schools.

Cans are due by April 30 to count toward the schools’ totals.
