On Monday, Nov. 25, Rossville Elementary School will bring history to life with its annual Pioneer Days event to create an immersive educational experience designed to engage all fourth-grade students through hands-on learning that allows students and their adult guests to explore pioneer life through interactive stations that bring the past into the present.
During the event, students will rotate through several stations throughout the day that offer a glimpse into daily life during Indiana’s pioneer era. Stations are expected to include traditional skills, such as basket weaving, butter churning and learning about musical instruments of the period. Students will also have the opportunity to experience the music and dance from the time period to help foster a broader understanding of the history of the region. Fourth-Grade Teacher Sheila Oliver commented about the impact of the events on the students.
“Pioneer Days is one of our most cherished education events, offering students a chance to experience history through hands-on activities that are engaging and information,” Oliver said. “We are thankful to all those involved that help make this day of learning possible.
This event is a collaborative effort involving community volunteers, school staff and families who come together to ensure an enriching experience for all participants. By participating in Pioneer Days, Rossville Elementary’s fourth graders will gain knowledge about the pioneer lifestyle and enjoy a memorable experience emphasizing the importance of community and tradition.
