Rossville Consolidated School District Partners With Frankfort Police Department To Promote Cyber Safety Awareness; Parent Meeting Set For Tomorrow, Dec. 4

Rossville Consolidated School District announced its upcoming parent and student program focused on online safety and cybersecurity in partnership with the Frankfort Police Department.

The parent program has been set for Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium, and students in grades six through 12 will be invited to participate in a similar program on Dec. 5.

The event will feature Crime Scene Investigator from the Frankfort Police Department Keshia Head as she addresses the escalating risks of cybercrimes that impact local communities. The initiative began as a topic during the Sept. 6 meeting of the Clinton County School Safety Commission, which saw members discuss the need to inform parents and students about the best practices to utilize to ensure safety online.

Head’s presentation will aim to heighten awareness around different cyber threats that children and families may encounter while also sharing insights from the National Center for Mission and Exploited Children and emphasizing the importance of the CyberTipline, which receives and processes more than 100,000 daily tips on potential online threats. Indiana reportedly averages around 160 cyber safety tips annually.

During the event, parents and students will learn about valuable resources, such as NetSmartz, an educational tool for online safety, and “Safe to Compete,” a dedicated program for schools and athletic coaches that provides brief yet comprehensive training modules on internet safety. Parents will have access to a 30-minute training that includes certification, while students and staff can benefit from age-appropriate modules designed to empower them with knowledge about online safety.

Parents and educators are encouraged to utilize the following resources to reinforce safe online habits at home and in school:
