The Frankfort Parks Department has announced that the issues causing delays in the opening of the Prairie Creek Park splash pad were addressed, and the amenity is expected to open to the public this weekend following a final round of testing and repair of the acid pump.
Frankfort Parks Superintendent Joel Tatum approached the Board of Works on Monday evening to discuss further updates with the splash pad at Prairie Creek Park, stating that the splash pad may open to the public this weekend. On May 31, Tatum released a statement regarding the initial delay for the splash pad opening, which was slated to begin open on June 1 this year. However, during the testing phase of the splash pad, the team discovered issues with the filtration system that were necessary to fix before the splash pad would be opened to the public.
“The filtration system is up and running,” Tatum said. “It is filtering. We do have a problem with our acid pump feeding correctly. Those parts should be here on Wednesday or Thursday.”
During the initial delay, Tatum released a statement encouraging the community to remain patient as the Parks Department works with contractors to address the filtration issue, which has now been resolved as of the report to the Board of Works, but further testing this week was required to ensure that the amenity was functioning properly and satisfying safety requirements.
“We understand the community’s eagerness to enjoy the splash pad, especially as the summer season kicks off,” Tatum released. “However, we ask for your patience and understanding during this time. The safety and quality of our facilities are our top priorities, and we are committed to ensuring that the splash pad meets the highest standards before opening to the public.”
Tatum reported to the board that the splash pad has a new tentative opening date for the weekend as the necessary repairs had been finalized, but further testing and chemical implementation was required to ensure the safety and well-being of community members who would utilize the amenity.
“Hopefully by the end of the week, I know I’ve said this before, but hopefully by the end of the week the splash pad will be going with all the chemicals,” Tatum said. “Right now it can go, but right now we can’t do it because we don’t have chemicals.”
