The Frankfort Police Department is hosting its annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1 in Prairie Creek Park from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with our local law enforcement partners. Participating agencies include: Mulberry Police, Michigantown Police, Rossville Police, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Clinton County Prosecutor and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. Project Lifesaver and Clinton County Autism Support Group will also be in attendance.
Under the direction of Administrator Colleen Moore, she credits the programs success to local businesses and not-for-profits for its’ success. “This year, Rossville Lion’s Club ice cream has been paid for by Envoy,” Moore said. “Also, Goodwin Funeral Home is providing bicycle helmets, bicycle registrations will be free, Center Township Trustees’ Office and United Way are organizing a school supply giveaway and Primera Iglesia Bautista DE Frankfort is providing food.”
National Night Out is open to all Clinton County families who will be able to see law enforcement emergency vehicle displays, enjoy Prairie Creek Park and much more that evening. Cindy Loveless and WILO will be on site from 6PM to 8PM. WILO broadcast is made possible by Center Township of Clinton County, Wampler’s Services, Inc., Clinton County Boy’s and Girl’s Club, and Lehnen’s Furniture and Mattress.
According to Frankfort Police Chief Scott Shoemaker, National Night Out allows the law enforcement family to strengthen communications and partnerships within the community and in the county as a whole.
“National Night Out is a great way for officers and residents to interact,” Shoemaker said. “We are excited to show off each of our departments and visit with one another.”
“Each year the attendance grows,” Moore said. “Attendees will be able to meet SWAT officers and interact with our drone and K9 units.”
Created in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out has grown from 2.5 million neighbors in 400 communities across 23 states that year to 38.1 million people in 16,540 communities in all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canada and military bases worldwide.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
