Mildred R. “Millie” Newman, 89, of rural Frankfort, Ind. went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026 at Milner’s Healthcare Center, Rossville. She was born January 22, 1937 in Lebanon, Ind. to Orville Hiland & Mary (Gullion) Hiland Copeland. She married Emil Newman on September 19, 1964 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1998.
Millie was a graduate of Lebanon High School and then received her RN degree from Methodist, Indianapolis. She retired from nursing after 50 years, working in the Columbus, Ohio area and Madison County, Ohio. She had lived in Clinton County since 2023. Millie proudly served her country in the U.S. Airforce Reserves. She was a member of the Business Women’s Association and multiple boards and service organization through the hospital. Millie enjoyed clogging, bowling, photography, loved to travel and volunteered at Madison County Hospital after her retirement.
Millie is survived by step-sisters, Helen (John) Wolle and Janet (Jim) Fitzwater, both of Indianapolis, she is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who live in Indiana, Alabama and Illinois.
Millie is preceded in death by her parents, spouse, children, Emil J. Newman and Mary Michele Newman, sisters Anna Belle Douglass and Peggy S. Cleveland and brother, Billy Hiland.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12 Noon Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. Pastor Gordon Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Indiana.
