Maurice “Max” Coffman

Maurice “Max” Coffman, 85, of Mulberry, passed away on January 13, 2025, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

Born March 11, 1939, in Frankfort, to Linden A. and Edith (Biddle) Coffman, Max was a 1957 graduate of Frankfort High School.  On September 13, 1959, Max married his sweetheart, Sarah Elizabeth Jacoby, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2011.

Max worked at Purdue University as Supervisor of the Sheet Metal and Welding Shop, until his retirement in 2001.  While working at Purdue he also ran Max Coffman Landscaping, where he finished grading and seeding lawns, landscaping, and trimmed evergreens and trees.  Living all his adult life in Mulberry, Max was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church.  He was a member Mulberry Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis where he enjoyed travels with the Murat Veteran Car Club and was President of that club twice.  He enjoyed restoring antique cars, snowmobiling, traveling, and spending time with his children transforming their properties where they live today. Max was a man of his word, a man of his convictions, and you had no question where he stood.

Surviving Max are his children, Mark C. (Jennifer) Coffman and Janet E (Denis) Neidigh; grandchildren, Max Coffman, Eric Neidigh, and Michelle (Matt) Bertelli.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Fredrick K. Coffman, Marvin Coffman, and Glenn Coffman.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 4pm until the start of the memorial service at 7pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel.  Pastor Kevin Smith will officiate.  Interment will be in Fair Haven Cemetery.  Memorials in Max’s name may be made to Shriner Children’s Hospital.  Messages of condolence to the family may be shared at www.dayandgenda.com.
