Man Sustains Potentially Life-Threating Injuries After Interstate Shooting Thursday Evening

Indiana State Police troopers are continuing an investigation into a shooting that occurred on I-65 yesterday afternoon.

On March 28, just before 5 p.m., state troopers reponded to reports of an interstate shooting that occurred near the 224 mile-marker on southbound I-65, which is located around six miles south of the Roselawn and Demotte exit to State Road 10.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a semi driver was traveling southbound on I-65 when he sustained a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound while the vehicle was moving. Responding troopers arrived on the scene and rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, and a medical helicopter was required to lifeline the patient to a hospital in Indianapolis for immediate treatment, authorities report.

Throughout the afternoon, traffic was closed in both directions for an extended period of time while the helicopter responded to the scene and detectives and crime scene investigators conducted an investigation into the incident. Lanes were reopened around 8 p.m.

Authorities report that the health status of the victim is unavailable, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
