The Lafayette Police Department responded to two separate road rage incidents over the weekend that both escalated to gunfire, and the department reported that no injuries were reported in either case.
The first incident occurred on Feb. 15 just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Sagamore Parkway North and Greenbush Street, authorities report. Officers reportedly arrested Tayloir Halderson, 28, after he fired shots at another vehicle.
The second incident occurred on Feb. 16 just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Sagamore Parkway North and Schuyler Avenue, authorities report. Officers reportedly arrested Tristen Clements, 20, for firing at another vehicle.
The two men were arrested on charges of attempted aggravated battery, intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Additionally, Halderson faces an extra charge of false informing.
“These incidents serve as a critical reminder of the dangers of road rage,” the department released. “Engaging in aggressive driving or escalating confrontations can have severe legal consequences. The Lafayette Police Department urges drivers to remain calm, avoid confrontations and report aggressive drivers to law enforcement rather than taking matters into their own hands.”
