Lafayette Police Department Investigates School Threats

An investigation launched by the Lafayette Police Department resulted in the arrest of a juvenile who reportedly made threats against local schools.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the Lafayette Police Department reportedly received notices of threats involving a potential shooting at Jefferson High School and Tecumseh Middle School. The department stated that following the report, the Lafayette Police Department and the Major Crime Unit of the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office assumed control of the investigation.

According to the department, a 14-year-old juvenile connected to the threats was identified and taken into custody during the investigation. The juvenile was reportedly arrested for conspiracy to commit auto theft and dangerous possession of a firearm.

The department stated that the Lafayette Police Department does not believe an ongoing threat to Jefferson High School or Tecumseh Middle School is present.

“The fact the defendant has been arrested and charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law,” the department released.
