Jon Michael Yeager

Kercheval Funeral Home

Jon Michael Yeager, age 77, passed away at his home in Sheridan, Indiana, on Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2025. Born April 4, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of the late Randall and Lola (Berry) Yeager. A 1966 graduate of Franklin Central High School, Jon grew up in Wanamaker and was baptized in the New Bethel Church. Later in life, he attended the Kirklin Christian Church with his wife, Connie. He was also a 50-year member of the Pentalpha Masonic Lodge F&AM #564 in Indianapolis, as well as a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite. Jon honorably served his country as a soldier with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he was attached to the 173rd airborne brigade. He was very proud of his service record, yet humbled by the honor of being a Purple Heart recipient. After returning home from the service, he continued his education at Indiana State University, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Arts. Jon was a life-long learner and was passionate about education. He began his teaching career at his alma mater, Franklin Central. He later took a position with Carmel High School as their Industrial Arts teacher, a position he held until his retirement. As the adage goes, if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. While that was true of Jon’s career as an educator, there’s even more to the story. His other great love was something he kind of fell into – that was farming. He married into a farming family, and little by little, he discovered just how much of a perfect fit it was. He loved working with his hands, especially when it came to anything mechanical. When it came to fixing stuff, he could piddle around (and fix it sooner or later) with the best of ’em. One of his favorite things about farming life was that it afforded him the opportunity to work with his son, doing what they both loved, year after year. He was an invaluable asset to the entire operation. Family was, without a doubt, the most important thing in Jon’s life. On July 13, 1974, he married the love of his life, Connie Jo Stowers; they were inseparable for the next 47 years. If Jon was somewhere, Connie usually wasn’t too far behind. And when it came to his granddaughters, well, let’s just say that grandpa was the role he was born for. Jon is survived by his son, Dean M. Yeager (Heidi) of Sheridan; and his 2 granddaughters, Avery Mae Yeager and Sarah Rovena Yeager of Sheridan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Lola (Berry) Yeager; brother, Richard Yeager; his feline BFF, KC; his canine partner in crime, Dipstick; and by his loving wife, Connie Jo (Stowers) Yeager on September 2, 2021. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, with Masonic services being held at 7:30 PM, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th Street, Sheridan, Indiana. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Spencer Cemetery in Sheridan, Indiana. Pastor Tom Holton will be officiating.
