John Richard “Jack” Macy, 96, passed away on March 29, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 21, 1929, to the late James L. Macy and Leona (McNeal) Macy. He married Marjorie “Margot” Fitzgerald in May 1972, and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2021. He was formerly married to Sonja Macy, a resident of Frankfort, and she passed on June 3, 2013.

Jack grew up in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and decided to graduate high school early to join the naval Flying Midshipman program. He served from 1948-1952 and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida where he found two of his life’s passions – the Navy and flying airplanes! Jack flew Corsairs and made over 100 landings on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier leading up to the Korean War. He enjoyed seeing the world, making lasting friendships, and creating the foundation of stories he would share repeatedly throughout his lifetime.

After his naval service, he finished his education at the University of Cincinnati. He settled in Frankfort in 1959 when he bought a ready mix concrete business that became Macy Materials. He expanded that business to include a plant in Lebanon, Indiana and eventually sold both plants in 1979. Jack moved to Tucson, Arizona for his early retirement but quickly became bored and bought the Brave Bull Ranch and later a travel agency. He spent the next 45 years living in the desert and enjoying the warm weather.

Jack is survived by his daughters: Maria Emery (Steve) of Carlsbad, CA; Marcia Werner of Atlanta, GA; and stepdaughter Mary Fitzgerald of Ventura, CA. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren: Ethan Emery, Zane Emery, Grayson Emery, Cole Werner, Macy Werner, Brynn Werner, Alix Arnold and Ryan Arnold.

Memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana, Arizona. Memorial donations in Jack’s honor may be made to the Casa de los Niños in Tucson or the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
