John A. Whitlock

John Alfred Whitlock, 83, of Colburn, formerly of Mulberry, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Franciscan Health East in Lafayette.  He was born January 25, 1941, in Dayton to Floyd and Katie Pearl Whitlock.  He married Lynn Ogden on January 25, 1965, and she survives.

John was a 1959 graduate of Mulberry High School.  After his graduation he worked for Alcoa before entering the Army National Guard.  He retired from Alcoa after 42 years and worked part-time for Meijers and drove for CityBus before finally “retiring for the third time.”  He was a member of Shelty Rescue, the 25 Year Club, and the American Legion Post 11.  He loved being in the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, camping, and mushroom hunting.  But his true passion was his family.  He loved spending time and making memories with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with his wife of 59 years, John is survived by his children, John Allen (Romalyn) Whitlock; Jeanette Van Auken, Adrian Critten (Elaine) Whitlock, and Katie (Chris) Whitsitt; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Patty Moore, Sylvia Wilson, and an infant brother.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2024, from 3pm until the time of the service at 5pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.  Military rites will be performed by Clinton County Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be American Heart Association and the Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
