Jimmy Hinton, 88, of Frankfort, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2026, at his home. He was born on November 6, 1937, in Frankfort to Harold and Leota (Talbert) Hinton. On August 30, 1959, he married Karen Lewis, and she preceded him in passing November 5, 2025.
Jimmy was a graduate of Frankfort High School, class of 1957. He worked for Nickel Plate and Norfolk and Southern Railroads for 42 years. HE was a former member of Hope United Brethren Church, was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, was a member of the Clinton County Masonic Lodge #54, Moose Lodge #7, and Eagles Lodge #976, Clinton County, Indiana and National Horseshoe Pitchers Associations. Jim was an avid horseshoe pitcher and enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and woodworking. Jim had a heart for other people and was giving and caring. He loved his family and loved supporting his children and participating in activities with them. He took great pride in being a grandfather and great grandfather. It brought him great joy being part of their lives.
He is survived by her children, Jimmy (Tammy) Hinton, Jr. and Cheryl Carney; sisters, Nancy Stewart and Diana Cunningham; brother, Joe (Betty) Hinton; grandchildren, Jeremy (Deb) Baker, Shannon (Daniel) Cruz, Brittney (Nathan) Pretzer, Amanda Hinton, Jimmy Lee (Amy) Hinton, Jennifer Hinton, Kevin Hinton, Tommy Hinton, Brandon (Justice) Hinton, Melissa Montgomery, Crystal Montgomery, Joey (Tiana) Montgomery, Jackie Carney, and Taren (Travis) Ruiz: 33 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife of 66 years, Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Regina Brittain; sisters, Mary Parker and Mabel Weida; and son-in-law, Edward “Ed” Carney.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2-5pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral service will be held, Monday, August 17, at 10am at the funeral home. Pastor Gordon Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Bunnell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s honor to the Humane Society of Clinton County.
