Jane Downham-Burkhalter, 80, of Camden, passed away on October 2, 2022, at IU Health Arnett in Lafayette. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 10, 1942, to Cecil W. and Lilian (James) Grenat. Her first husband was Bobby E. Downham; he passed in 1997. She later married Dale Burkhalter, and he passed in 2016.
Jane graduated from Frankfort High School. She had formerly lived in Muncie before moving to Frankfort. Jane had worked as an EMT with the Rossville Ambulance Service, Milner’s Nursing Home as a nursing assistant, and at the Lafayette Wal-Mart in the fabric department. She enjoyed making candy and caramel corn for family at Christmas, gardening, sewing, crocheting, driving to visit friends, family reunions, and loved her dogs. She also enjoyed Bible studies, keeping up-to-date on Bible prophecy, listening to Elvis and Alan Jackson, and always had a kind, gracious and giving heart. Jane enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church in Camden for several years.
Jane is survived by her sons, Brett A. (Cindy) Downham of West Lafayette and Eric W. Downham of Flora; stepdaughter, Jill Payne of Arizona; sisters, Rosie Lucas of Madison, Carolyn Rayburn of North Vernon, and Nancy Grenat of Hebron; brother, Duane (Denise) Grenat of Port St. Lucie, FL; brother and sisters-in-law; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Cecil W. Grenat; mother, Lilian Wells; stepmother, Mary Grenat; first husband, Bobby E. Downham; second husband, Dale Burkhalter; sons, Jeffrey T. Downham and Brian K. Downham; and stepsons, Randy and Larry Burkhalter.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 6, 2022, beginning at 10:00 am until the start of the funeral service at 12:00 pm, at Genda Funeral Home in Rossville with Pastor Paul Veldhu officiating.
