James V. Butz, 87, of Frankfort, passed away September 11, 2025 at his home.  He was born November 26, 1937 in Logansport to Henry T. & Helen (Gard) Butz.  He married Jaenett Sue Mosson in 1958 and she survives.

Jim had lived in Monticello before moving to Rossville.  While at Rossville High School, he was active in basketball, track and baseball.  He was in the Junior play, was class treasurer and was on student council and a 1955 graduate. During school, he worked at Gray’s Hatchery. A week after his 18th birthday, he started his career at Indiana Bell, working until his retirement in 1991 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers.   He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Logansport.  Jim enjoyed playing golf, sports, going to Chicago Cubs games and was an avid Purdue University basketball fan, holding season tickets for several years.  Jim and Jaenett Sue wintered in Florida for several years.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jaenett Sue, daughter, Pamela A. Butz of Frankfort, son, Thomas W. Butz of Indianapolis, brothers, Bill Butz of Rossville, Ed Butz of Arizona, sister, Carol (Jeff) Stevens of Rossville, son-in-law, Patrick Claire of Fowler, grandchildren, Kelsee M. (Jerrin) Burk, twins, Taylor and Colin Claire, and great grandchildren, Paisley, Reese, Emersyn, Nash, Walker and Jett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Sue Claire in 2023, stepmother, Norma Butz, and brother, Rex Campbell.

Visitation will be 2:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort.  Memory sharing will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Please visit goodwinfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence.
