Indiana University Health recognized the efforts of a local medical assistant as she addressed the needs of a local woman experiencing heat-related symptoms on a particularly hot day in the city.
IU Health announced that during a particularly hot day earlier this summer, a patient arrived at IU Health Family Medicine in Frankfort where she was observed as being visibly struggling with the heat due to her sweating and being out of breath.
According to the organization, Certified Medical Assistant Kelsey Crose was notified that the patient’s air conditioning had been broken in both her home and her car, causing her to experience higher instances of heat.
Crose reportedly began contacting every organization in the local area for assistance, locating a helpful hand from St. Mary’s Church to provide air conditioning units that were installed the same day that the patient arrived at the facility.
The organization stated that the timely intervention was crucial for the safety and well-being of the patient as the following day saw a forecasted temperature rising above 97 degrees. According to the organization, the patient’s husband, who suffers from chronic medical issues, was grateful for the gesture to ensure the heat remained at bay.
Crose reflected on her efforts in providing the patient and her husband with the necessary equipment to maintain a cooler environment in their home during the high heats.
“I’ve always wanted to advocate for our patients,” Crose said. “It’s really important for me as a person to make sure people are taken care of.”
