The 52@65 project is a state- and federally-funded Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project designed to improve the level of service of the Interstate 65 interchange with US 52. As currently constructed, this interchange only provides partial access for motorists. Vehicles are required to use the SR 47 and SR 32 interchanges to reach the areas east and west of I-65 near the US 52 interchange as well as less direct routes through residential areas and downtown Lebanon.
- 52@65 will address those access problems, providing improved mobility and direct access to the areas east and west of I-65, north of Lebanon. It will also allow the region to handle future connectivity and access requirements.
- 52@65 is currently in the design phase, and INDOT is committed to robust communications and collaboration throughout the lifetime of this project. The design won’t be “final” until the public involvement is complete and the public hearing is held.
- 52@65 is a project for today and tomorrow and a state investment in improving our infrastructure. Infrastructure that works is at the core of INDOT’s mission and why Indiana was ranked number one for infrastructure by CNBC.
Upcoming Publlic Information Meeting
INDOT will be hosting a public meeting in Summer/Fall 2023 to present the preliminary preferred recommended interchange. This meeting is designed to ensure the voice of stakeholders – residents, businesses, and organizations – are heard. You can also add your voice by submitting comments through our website.

Project Progress
Although largely invisible, the 52@65 project is making great progress. We are, after all, still in the design phase.
Preliminary plans are approximately 40% developed. After a year of analysis, evaluation, and input from federal, state, and local agencies, adjacent stakeholders and other interested parties, we aligned on a preferred alternative in May 2023. Environmental field work is ongoing. The project team is working with local municipalities – including Boone County and the City of Lebanon – to ensure the alignment addresses their needs and requests.
Once the state and federal requirements for environmental impact are met, the design will move forward with additional public input and collaboration. No ground will be broken until the design is complete.
You can view the preliminary environmental reports, alternatives, exhibits, and video presentations completed on 52at65.com.
Project Schedule
The 52@65 project is in its design phase, which is expected to be completed by Fall 2024. The next step will be to accept bids from construction contractors and vendors, which is scheduled for late 2024, with construction beginning in Spring 2025. Substantial construction should be complete by Fall 2026.
There will not be any traffic interruptions during the design stage. While there will likely be interruptions during construction, INDOT and its contractors will be implementing a plan to lessen the impact on motorists. Our team will communicate regularly with stakeholders to keep them informed of closures and alternate routes so drivers can plan ahead.
