Helen Marie Witz, 82, of Mulberry, passed peacefully on to her heavenly home, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born September 20, 1941, in Lafayette to Warren and Minnie (Sandefur) Brooks. She married Harold Witz on March 24, 1963, and he survives.
Helen was valedictorian of the class of 1959 at Remington High School. She then graduated from the International Business College in Fort Wayne in 1961. She worked as an Executive Secretary at Purdue University. She then worked as the Library Aide at Mulberry Elementary School and then Clinton Prairie Elementary School until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lafayette since 1964, where she helped with vacation Bible school and feeding the youth group. She was also a member of the Mulberry Federated Round Table helping with many activities and projects around Mulberry. Helen was an avid crafter and reader and enjoyed weaving, knitting, sewing, baking, gardening, and loved spending time with her family.
Along with her husband of 60 years, Helen is survived by her daughters, Susan (Kennith) Crick and Karen (Sam) Gerold; a sister, Marilyn McAuley; grandchildren, Sarah Crick, Ethan Crick, Evan Gerold, and Ella Gerold; and great granddaughter, Averley Crick.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 1pm until the time of the service at 3pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel. Pastor Lisa Hood will officiate. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s honor to the First Baptist Church in Lafayette or Riggs Community Health Center in Lafayette.
