The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for this afternoon, Wednesday, Dec. 11 for snow showers and squalls in counties that include Carroll, Clinton and Boone.
The weather statement depicts snow showers and snow squalls that may develop this afternoon and evening across Central Indiana focused especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Snowfall rates are expected to be locally heavy at times, producing drastically reduced visibilities and brief whiteout conditions as winds may reach highs of around 40-miles-per-hour.
As temperatures continue to fall later today into the evening, flash freezing of surfaces may also occur.
The service stated that conditions can deteriorate rapidly within heavy snow showers with little warning and traveling may be hazardous at times, especially during the evening commute.
The special weather statement is expected to affect Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Lawrence, Jackson and Jennings counties, including the cities of Delphi, Flora, Williamsport, West Lebanon, Lafayette, West Lafayette, Frankfort, Kokomo, Attica, Covington, Veedersburg, Crawfordsville, Lebanon, Zionsville, Tipton, Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Anderson, Muncie, Winchester, Union City, Farmland, Parker City, Clinton, Fairview Park, Rockville, Montezuma, Rosedale, Greencastle, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Danville, Indianapolis, Greenfield, New Castle, Terre Haute, Brazil, Spencer, Gosport, Martinsville, Mooresville, Greenwood, Franklin, Shelbyville, Rushville, Sullivan, Carlisle, Shelburn, Farmersburg, Linton, Bloomfield, Jasonville, Worthington, Bloomington, Nashville, Columbus, Greensburg, Vincennes, Washington, Loogootee, Shoals, Bedford, Mitchell, Seymour and North Vernon.
