The Frankfort community came together Monday morning, Nov. 11 to honor local veterans and those who have served nationwide, past and present, for Veteran’s Day.
Attendees were treated to a program that heard the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer, music, speeches and more throughout the program at Veteran’s Park. During the program, the community heard a personal account of service from veteran and local Deputy Ryan West where he detailed his time in the service until his medical discharge. Attendees were also treated to music from the Clinton Prairie Band and a poem read by Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets titled “A Veteran’s Pledge,” which reads:
They served their country, brave and true,
In fields of green and skies of blue.
Through hardship’s test, they stood their ground,
Their courage strong, their spirit sound.
With honor’s flame, they fought the fight,
For freedom’s cause, their guiding light.
They faced the foe with steadfast will,
Their hearts with courage, strong and still.
Though years may pass, their sacrifice endures,
A testament to heroes pure.
We honor them, with grateful hearts,
For all they’ve done, from the very start.
The program concluded with a gun salute, a prayer, the playing of Taps and exit music from the Clinton Prairie Band.
