At approximately 5:19 p.m. on September 30, the Boone County Communications Center received a call advising that there was an accident involving an inverted vehicle in the area of the 129 mile-marker of Interstate 65, southbound. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement was advised that one of
the driver’s involved, a Jonathan Meza-Ruiz (26 years old) of Lafayette, had exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Law Enforcement personnel quickly responded to the scene and was able to ascertain Meza-Ruiz route of travel. Officers began searching west of the accident scene and was quickly able to take the fleeing driver into custody without further incident. Once the driver’s identity was acquired, it was
found at that time the Meza-Ruiz was wanted on a warrant by the US Marshals for Failure to Comply with the Conditions of Pre-Trial Release.
Meza-Ruiz was transported from the scene to a nearby medical facility to be treated for his injuries from the accident. Once medically cleared from the hospital, Mr. Meza-Ruiz was transported to the Boone County Jail, where he will face the local preliminary charge of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Injury and for the US Marshal warrant.
