Evelyn “Joan” Brown, 96, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Wesley Manor. She was born August 14, 1928, in Clinton County to Virgil and Jessie Ann (Walker) King. She married Charles J. Brown on February 15, 1986, and he preceded her in death.
Joan was a 1946 graduate of Sugar Creek School and then from Approved Beauty School in Indianapolis in 1947. She began her hairdresser career in 1947 with Gertrude Shurr and worked as a hairdresser for over 60 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Frankfort since 1960 and the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary in Kirklin. She enjoyed playing cards and going line dancing. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a lover of life.
Joan is survived by three stepchildren, two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a step grandchild; brothers Roscoe, Gifford, Kenneth, Robert and Roland “Zeke” King; and sisters, Dorotha Boone, LaVonna Patchett, Velma Boone, Jewel Haskett, and Phyllis Powell
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 12pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin. Pastor Mark Perdue will officiate. Day & Genda Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s honor to Clinton County Cancer or the Frankfort First Christian Church.
