Hattie’s Coffee House and The Daily Grind, nestled in the heart of Whitestown, have been granted one of multiple Boone County 180 Makeover Awards, a testament
to their commitment to community enhancement and innovation.
Facilitated through a collaborative effort between Hattie’s, The Daily Grind, and the Town of Whitestown, this transformative grant, spearheaded by the Boone EDC, will infuse $189,845 into revitalizing these beloved establishments.
The project aims to uplift the community experience by embarking on comprehensive renovations. Hattie’s Coffee House is set to undergo a significant transformation, including a proposed parking lot expansion, enhancements to ADA accessibility, and the development of trails and landscaping. Meanwhile, The Daily Grind is poised to convert the garage at Hattie’s Coffee House into a state-of-the-art roastery, providing an innovative space for hosting cupping events, educational classes, and more.
The 180 Makeover initiative, a flagship program of the 180 Alliance for READI 1.0 funding, encompasses Boone, Hendricks, Johnson, Montgomery, Morgan, and Putnam Counties, except for Zionsville and Greenwood. Boone County boasts approximately $1.2 million in available funding through this program, with
various projects underway in Advance, Jamestown, Thorntown, Lebanon, and Whitestown.
Dan Patterson, Whitestown Town Council President, emphasized the importance of initiatives like the Hattie’s Coffee House and Daily Grind 180 Makeover in fostering community vibrancy
“As Whitestown continues to evolve and grow, projects like the Hattie’s Coffee House and Daily Grind 180 Makeover are essential in revitalizing our community, creating a vibrant atmosphere where residents and visitors alike can gather, connect, and thrive,” Patterson said.
Boone EDC CEO Molly Whitehead echoed Patterson’s sentiments, affirming, “We’re eagerly joining forces with our municipalities for the 180 Makeover program in Boone County. Our downtowns are the core of our community’s vitality, and we’re committed to crafting new spaces for small businesses and entrepreneurs to develop.”
Kirra Sutton, owner of Hattie’s Coffee House, expressed gratitude for the grant, highlighting its pivotal role in fortifying community bonds, stating, “I opened Hattie’s Coffee House because I love coffee and love community, and I wanted to bring the two together in Whitestown. Receiving this grant will enable us to make much-needed improvements to our property that will allow us to continue serving the community.”
Mario Claretto, owner of The Daily Grind, shared in Sutton’s enthusiasm, stating, “The Daily Grind really spurred off of our partnership with Hattie’s Coffee House, and we are thrilled to be able to set up a roastery alongside Hattie’s.”
The Town of Whitestown will issue invitations to bid in the upcoming weeks, with project completion anticipated by late 2024 or early 2025. All projects must be finalized by Dec. 31, 2025.
